In regards to new books, articles, and other media fixation on robots and artificial intelligence becoming “almost human,” Chris Locke posted a quick blurb on his Mystic Bourgeoisie blog that I like a lot:
But I would go even further to suggest that your iPod is almost a chipmunk, and your toaster oven is almost a racoon! Who can say what your car might turn into any day now. A horse? A rhinoceros? Just think: the possibilities are endless.
So why is it no one sees AI becoming first and animal, then human? Do they expect to bypass evolution - is this some sort of robotic “intelligent design?” Or is it simply that deep down, we all know humans are different from animals… something greater, something higher, the apex of life on earth… even as we squash the rights of some humans and legislate more protection for animals?
